“To color the future of our community through meaningful art experiences”
City ArtWorks engages children in exciting hands-on art experiences. We provide accessible and affordable art education by trained educators and artists, acting on our governing principle that children flourish when given the opportunity to explore their own creativity. City ArtWorks fosters the development of the creative thinker. Exposure to the visual arts can help children develop a deeper understanding of their world and social environment. Arts education directly and positively impacts a child's higher order thinking skills, problem solving ability, and motivation to learn.

City ArtWorks has been teaching the visual arts to Houston 's children for over 25 years! Founded in 1982 to help address the steady reduction of arts education within the public school system, this non-profit organization developed its signature Art After School program to give students an opportunity to explore their own creativity in a safe, structured environment. Art After School began with six teachers and 300 students from 12 local elementary schools. Today the program reaches into 60 schools in eight school districts, serves 3,000 students each year, and employs 70 teachers and three City ArtWorks staff members.
City Art Works also offers summer art camps and studio classes, provides bedside art instruction at the Texas Children's Cancer Center and Hematology Unit, and partners with organizations like Texas Inter-Faith and The Houston Arboretum and Nature Center to make new art experiences possible for a diverse group of children. Committed to the highest quality educational standards in all its programs, City ArtWorks recruits and trains experienced instructors whose fresh, unique lessons make art fun and accessible for their students.
