Community Collaborations

City ArtWorks embraces the opportunity for collaboration with other organizations in Houston. We remain open to designing creative partnerships that further our mission and help to bring the arts to a broader audience within the community. If you are interested in exploring a partnership with City Artworks please contact us.

Texas Children’s Hospital Cancer Center

Therapeutic Art Sessions at Texas Children’s Cancer Center
Working in concert with the Arts in Medicine program at Texas Children’s Cancer Center, City ArtWorks offers clinic and bedside art instruction for young patients in the Cancer, Hematology, and Bone Marrow Transplant and Renal units. These children and their families face serious illness and health issues but find the opportunity to express them through art both exciting and therapeutic. This program is generously funded by City ArtWorks’ long-time supporter, Mrs. Sybil Roos, and other charitable individuals.

Texas Inter-Faith Housing

Art Programming in Low Income Housing
City ArtWorks partners with Texas Inter-Faith to provide Art After School for children of low-income families in 12 Inter-Faith housing properties. Thanks to grants from the Simmons Foundation and Texas Inter-Faith Housing, these children will not only be housed with dignity but will have a chance to express themselves through their art.

Passages for Women

Volunteer Assistance
City ArtWorks collaborates with Passages for Women. Passages for Women provides an intimate residential community, structured therapy and highly personalized care for women who have completed their primary treatment for alcoholism and chemical dependency. Women completing the program serve at City ArtWorks. Spending time in the art supply department, they take inventory, assist organizing teacher supplies and other volunteer activities.

Community Artists Collective

Teaching Assistance
City ArtWorks partners with Community Artists Collective to place specialized art teachers in various art classes. This year, the Community Artists Collective shared fashion artist, Charlayne Lockett, to teach the fashion class held during the City ArtWorks Summer Art Camp. Fashion creations from six children in Ms. Lockett’s fashion classes were selected for the Children’s Art Show held at the Cloister Gallery in Christ Church Cathedral in August.
